Laying Up Treasures In Heaven
Heavenly Treasures
(Matthew 6:19-21, 1 Corinthians 3:9-)
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
What kind of treasures are you laying up in heaven. We have the treasure of salvation, and Jesus Christ is the foundation of where we lay our treasures. But how are we nvesting our time, money, and love ? Are we investing them into eternal things and helping move Gods kingdom forward? Are we building on the foundation with Gold, Siver and prescious stone, or are we using wood hay and stubble. The gold, silver and prescious stone will last forever even when tested by fire. We need to be careful what treasures we lay up, according to 1 Corinthians 3, all of our works will be tested.
So now that you have recieved the treasure of Salvation and We are to lay up treasures in heaven rather than here on earth, because here on earth there is moths, rust, theft and so on that can and will destroy them. But when we lay them up in heaven, in the right manner, we will build on a good foundation, by using good and lasting materials. Trasures that our eternal life has given us, so we can build a strong and steady life in and through the Lord Jesus Christ. So then, what treasures are we laying up? What treasures are to storing up? Jesus during His time on earth, and in His Sermon on the Mount taught that we needed to lay up and build a strong life, built on the foundation who is Jesus Christ Himself
Earthly treasures which we so often desire and work so hard for are things like, money, clothes, and property, material things, these things can anbd do break, rust, rot, or get stolen. There are also those things we do for self in the name of God that will also be tested and will not last. As it tells us in (1 Corinthians 3: 9-17) they do not last, and these we cannot take them with you when die, because they will be tested by fire and will be burned upThese are what Corinthians calls wood, hay and stubble.
Corinthians also tells us there are those treasures that will not burn up, and these are the ones that we need to lay up, in heaven. like gold, silver and prescious stone, that when tested by fire becomes pure and lasts forever. Thins like unselfish acts of love, kindness, generosity, and faith these will last forever. They will not burn up when tested. Jesus says that "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". Think about this, what you value most is what you spend most of your time at doing. It controls what you love. So at times we need to stop and take stock of our time, what is most of our time spent at doing.
So then, how do we lay up treasures in heaven that will last the test of fire, as all of our works will be tested in that way. Well, friends, I know we all at times fall short, on doing selfless acts and doing everything that we do, to move Gods kingdom forward, but here is what needs to happen. To you heavenly wealth we can only do it through daily actions, like loving unconditionally, giving generously, sharing your money and resources to help others, loving on other people wether they return that love or not. Treating others like we areselves would love to be treatedc with mercy, being forgiven for things done out of selfish ambition,we need to love, forgive, and show mercy to all people, following the example Christ set for us. We need to build with good, lasting materials, that would be considered, GOLD, Silver and Prescious Stone. Things that will stand the test of time and in the end fire..
Father God, I have that desire to serve you with all of my heart for the rest of my life. Help me obey you and your word, Lord, I pray for those who need a touch from you, and today help me be a good example of who you made me to be. That my actions and words may help someone come to know Christin a better way. Thnak you for being the Saviour of the world, thank you for being my Saviouur. In your name I pray AMEN
