Patience Is A Virtue Of Great Value
Displaying The Fruits Of The Spirit
Galatians 5:16-26
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patence), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5:22-26)
As a prisoners for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthyt of the callingu you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one anotherv in love.w 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one bodyz and one Spirit,a just as you were called to one hope when you were calledb; 5 one Lord,c one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all,d who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
As Paul writes the book of Ephesians and Galatians, He writes to the churches, in them He reminds us of the great LOVE God has for us. He writes this, that “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ . . . to adopt us into his own family” (1:4-5 nlt). It is because of the lovr God gives in which none of us really deserve he asks us “to live a life worthy of the calling [we] have received” (4:1) and to manifest the Christlike virtues of humility, gentleness, patience, and love (v. 2). When we manifest these virtues we are to do so with humility, we “value others above [ourselves], not looking to [our] own interests but . . . to the interests of the others” (Philippians 2:3-4). In gentleness and patience, “we bear with each other and forgive one another . . . as the Lord forgave [us]” (Colossians 3:12-13). Friends because we have been born again, “God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us” (1 John 4:12 nlt), So there fore we have the spirit of God within us and He will help us live in love as He is love and others will see that love because we are patient with them.
Patience is a virtue, that at times many of us do not have very much of but we do need it. We need the ability to wait calmly without getting angry or adjitated, it is a very good and moral trait to possess. It gives us the capacity to accept delays, hardships, wait without complaining or losing our temper. I have found when I get adjitated and begin to rush into things or get angry with someone, things usually get worse than they were before. On the other hand when I have been patient, stayed calm waiting for the right moment, changed the atmosphere, I experience more inner strength and the maturity I should have shows through maturity. I have found that I do not need to pray for patience because enough stuff happens on a regular bases for me to practice patience, if I just make myself aware that I need too. It is simply exercising self-control at those times and in the situations that seem to eritate you the most. After a while it happens automatically and in the moment, you start taking deep breaths and you begin to ask for patience in the moment and you begin to feel and your calm comes and you go a way afterwards, hoping you were a good example of patience.
That is what is patience in action It is dealing with your emotions before they boil over and thinking before you act in those situations. Ot is when you take a moment to assess the situation, looking around you and take in the whole picture. Thinking what will my reactions do, to the realtionship with the person I am now in this situation with. Often we do not think in that way, but we shold. We do have a choice that will will make things easier for ourselves in the moment or we can avoid a hasty decision and rather be patient for the benifits of the long-term relationship. Forsure it is harder work at the time, it may take a little longer hard work, but the pay off is much more satifying.
So this morning, in your christian walk, always be mindful of who you are in Christ, ask Him to be in control of your emotions and beware of your behaviour at all time, it is a lot to practice but will be worth it all in the end. So take Pauls advise, , “Be patient” (Ephesians 4:2)—and we all know that’s so much easier said than done because it involves bearing with each other, a word that can mean everything from “carrying” to “enduring” to “supporting.” In other words it takes effort to be patient. But with Gods help it is possile, God’s love always wins and our strength in him shows through. After which our burden is lifted and and we go on our mary way. Living this way, you may not always get what you want, but rather you get what you really needed. “A life worthy of the calling you have received” (v. 1).
Pray this morning for someone, at least one or two people, that you need patience with today. Ask God to show you how it is possible.
Dear God, I want to be patient. Please help me work on being patient in all situations that require it. I know that patience comes through trials and you do allow them for that purpise help me except them and act accordingly. It is in your name I Pray AMEN
