THE WORD OF God Is True
IT LASTS FOR EVER
Isaiah 40:1-8,
A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All people are like grass,i and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withersj and the flowers fall, because the breathk of the Lord blowsl on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowersm fall, but the wordn of our God endureso forever. Isaiah40:6-8
Isaiah hits a sobering note here in chapter 40. We as humans are like “grass that grows dies and withers away.(v. 7) or like a flower that grows, blooms and then falls to the ground. (v. 8). Yes, he paints a picture of life being the temporary nature of our human existence, as in (James 4:14) Life is but a mist a vapour, these explanations of our life is in contrasts with what the bible says about "the word of God" For it says when we are born again (v. 8). Peter, before referancing Isaiah 40:6-8 to support his claim in 1 Peter 1:24-25, said “You have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God” (v. 23). The word of God will stand the test of time, it always has and it always will. The world has tried in the past to distroy it and it has stood. Try as they might to deem it hate mail, it is not and it will come forth as gold, because no one can take it from the heart of man.
The propet Isaiah was not the only bible writer to speak of the word of God being everlasting and strong. (Hebrews 4:12) The book of psalms says in (Psalm 119:89) “Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” Though it is contantly challenged over the years with our frailty of mind and backward thinking, somehow we still find comfort in the word of God, that calms our souls. And that we know it is something that will last, just as Jesus will. He is the beging and the end, and so the word of God will also last for ever. “the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).
Friends, time is fleeting.. As I sit and ponder this fact this morning, I have seen many things pass by in my short 70 years. But a way back, my Grandpa and Grandma, moved from Scotland to the USA, and then from the USA to Canada, where my day was born and later he married my mom. My dad was young when God took him home to heaven He had given his life into God's hands and did his very best to follow and do Gods biding while he was alive Even leading a man to recieve Christ, just a very few days before he passed away in the hospital. then my mom at age 80 passed away in 2005.. and now in a short 10 years, Lorrd willing I will have my 80th birthday.
I say all of this to day, I am speaking of three generations, plus my childrens generation now, as they are raising and have raised their children, and they are beginning to give us great grandchildren. I say wow, who would of thought, that today I would be a great grandfather. Time passes by, grass grows and fades away, flowers grow, bloom and fall, my life has been but a mist avapour that disapates into the air. But I stand on the word of God, and I believe in the one nad only Son of God, who came, lived and died on the cross to forgive me from my sins, that I might live forever with my everlasting god and His word.
Oh, it is easy to talk about all of the earthly thngs we have done, we as man like to boast about things like wealth, our jobs over the years, homes we have bought and built, cars we have repaired and driven, but today, I can't even find a car that is the same as the first one I drove. A 1970 Pontic Lerentian.I loved that car, but now its gone and I can find one like it. So as I read the words of Isaiah 40 it remind me that, “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field” (v. 6). Th bble spesk often to people who are enduring hardship, sickness, persicution and so on, who may or may not be enduring God’s discipline for their faithlessness. But end the end HE will be true to His word, it will correct them, God will comfort them as He has promised manty times in the bible (vv. 1-2).
So then, What the prophet says about people in the bible is so, so true, we are like grass that fades, and flowers that fall, all is true (vv. 6-7). But the word of God, as God Himself will last forever, outlasting all of man, mansions, wealth, ambition and works of their hands. Yes, “the word of our God endures forever” (v. 8). My friends it is good to keep this in mind as to how fragile we are. We need the sign posted across our backs, "FRAGILE, HANDLE WITH CARE" Its a good idea, and a smart idea to always remember that the word of God is everlasting.
Stop, put on your thinking cap this morning and think about your life and ask yourself, What have I witnessed in life that has withered and faded away? As I have, I would have to say, everything but God, and His word, everything else has past with time. Today, it seems like my life has been a vapour, just yesterday, I was running barefoot on the farm in Sakatchewan chasing my child hood dreams, and today, I am a great grandfather. WE serve an amazing and great God, who is forever, and hss given me the gift that I too might live forever. How does God’s eternal nature and unfailing word encourage you? Are you ready, have you recieved that gife of erernal life. (John 3:16)
Father God, , I praise and worship you today, because You, and Your word endures forever!AMEN
