STUDY TH WORD OF GOD
TO SHOW YOURSELF APPRIVED
UNTO GOD
(2 Timothy14-24)
"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." "Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."(2 Timothy 2:15, 23,24)
Where did the scriptures come from, and what was the purpose of them? We if we read chapter 3 of 2 Timothy verses 16 and 17, "we will see that all of the scriptures come from God's mouth so to speak. It says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and then it goes on to say as to why we have the scriptures", it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
In our minds, our breathe expelles from our mouths when we speak, so when we hear the scriptures are God breathed, we automatically think of God speaking the scriptures. In so doing He is telling us who He is so that we know who He is and are equipped or trained by Him to do His will, and to serve Him. Friends as we come to know who He is, and learn to love Him, we are encouraged to love and serve Him more with our whole hearts, than just with our minds.. Our relationship with God becomes a heart issue. Peter here that we grow, Read (2 Peter 3:18) We “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!” (2 Peter 3:18). So when we study and meditate on the the word of God, the scriptures come to life and we through Christ start living out the scriptures in our day to day. With God and His word as our guide, they help us discern truth and we grow and mature in our knowledge of Him and it becomes evident in our lives so that orthers notice that there is something different about us.
I like the way the King James Bible puts this verse in 2 Timothy 2:15: "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly devividing the word of truth.
Its not enough just to read the bible without being born again. Because when we are not born again, and we do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and we do not have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, then we will just be reading another book. But when we have a personal relationship with Jeus, He has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and the Holy Spirit beings to act as our divine teacher, He then becomes our interpreter of the Word of God. After working with an interpreter in Rwanda, the words I spoke, became known to the Rwanda people through the interpreter nad they would illuminate the Scripture and it became transformed into thier minds. The Holy Spirit illuminated the scriptures to me as the human teacher, my interprater took the words I spoke and from that information the scriptures became a living truth to the Rwandan people I spoke to.. It was pretty amazing how God did that.. . As "God" the "Author" of the scriptures (inspired the biblical writers), the Holy Spirit provided spiritual discernment as they understood and wrote down the words that told us of the very will of God. God's will.
We can see how Jesus promised in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit would teach all things and bring to remembrance His teachings. The Spirit also helps interpret the Scriptures correctly, He guides you and me as believers into truth of God rather than in error and wrong living. Empowering us in applying the word of God to our lives That is how the word of God becomes a lamp unto our feet, lighting a path before us
We need to see, that without the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives the Bible will appear as only another book that we are studying to gain more knowledge.. Reading the bible needs to be more than that. It needs to be come our life giving flow, on a day to day bases. Fir it is the life-giving flow of truth, it is truth. You see the Holy Spirit does not just teach truth, but rather produces a deeper relationship with God, that comforts, sustains and gives one a peace that passes all understanding. (Philippians 4:7)
MY friends, it makes such a difference when we have the right and true teacher. When we have the proper training it makes all the difference in the word, the bible comes to life in our hands as the Holy Spirit teaches us. Oh, it is great to have a good bible school training, but without the Holy Spirit it is just another training facility.
Paul wanted Timothy to have more so He to could stand firm in his faith as He went forth teaching the word of God. Paul wanted Him to avoid on nessasary quarrels, He did not want him to be deceived by false teachers. So that is why Paul encouraged Timothy to study the Scriptures, to become wise in the knowledge of them To let the word of God give him guidance.. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
As we "practice" sharing the word of God, the key word here is practice, we will see an improvement in our own spiritual walk, because we will be learning and understanding the words of the Bible and putting them into practice, and we are encouraged because we see growth in our knowledge of God—enabling us to distinguish truth from falsehood as we gain wisdom.
Father God, thanbk you for sending the Holy Spirit to be my teacher and guide, through the word if God.. AMEN
