Laying Up Treasure In Heaven
NO MOTHS AND NO RUST
(Luke 11:34–36; 12:22–34
Matthew 6: 1-21)
Earthly Treasures Verses Heavenly Treasures
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
Doing something expecting nothing in return is what (Matthew 6:1-21) This is what Jesus is talking about. Jesus the teacher is speaking of acts kindness, doing right all the time. Helping someone in need, praying for the sick, all of this should not be done to see what you get inreturn, but rather it should come from a hearts desire to please God and in so doing you will with out realizing it, be laying up treasures in heaven.. But when doing it to gain human applause, and you recieve it, the bible sauys you havve already recieved your rewards. Better yet when we perform good deeds in secret, it kind of cements the motivation as being out of pure love rather than the expectation of the act being returned to you.
(Matt 6:1-4) we see Jesus warning against practicing righteousness "before men to be seen by them." But rather we should be giving to the needy, and doing it privately lead by God in the moment to the extent that even your left hand and your right hand a confused at what you are up to. "your left hand does not know what your right hand is doing".
Jesus also says our life of faith and prayer should follow the same way of thinking,(Matt 6:5-18): Jesus instructs us to pray in private (go into your closet/room close the door and pray in secret) in so doing you are only doing it for the audience of one (GOD) no public display. The bible tells us when we love others and pray for others in this way we will be lsying up treasure in heaven (Matt 6:19-21) We need to shift our minds to our eternal impact on lives rather than expecting rcognition now. What are we doing for God that will make a difference in this world and prepare others for the coming Kingdom of God.
So what I am saying is, that no good deeds or good works will go on noticed, either they will be notice and rewatded here on earth, Or God will notice and your rewards or blessings, may come from Him while here in earth, but there is no doubt that they will also come once we reach heaven. So, when you see a need, cquietly meet it, doing it because God told us to love one another, as 1 Corinthians 13 tells us too. It is often quoted in relation to a wedding but I believe it should apply to all believers, according to other portions of scripture like 1 John.(4:8 for example) loving and leaving the results in God's hands.
Conclusion
Matthew 6:1-21 -So in closing, after reading these scriptures this morning, I see that the most effective actions and righteous giving when done anonymous and recieving nothing in return other than the sadisfation of meeting aa need, you transform and earthly act into a heavenly reward because of a love that God has placed in your heart.
Father God, thank you for the opportunities to serve you, whether they have been recognized or not. Thank you for your many blessings and provissions over hte years from those who donated time and moneoes to your work and also those who helped and gave in secret and who prayed in secret, You will not allow any good deed to go unnoticed. It is in your name I pray AMEN.
