BEING A HUMBLE LEADER
HUMILITY IS WHAT WE NEED
John 1:19-42
"John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Make straight the way for the Lord." (John 1:23)
Humility, the best humility I have seen is in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Once I understoodthe humility it took for Jesus to step out of heaven as the second person of the Godhead, and humbled Himself to become a man, (a baby) and in so doing displayed for me on the cross and gave me new life. I definantly have a different perspective in my life now. For any thing I do, I want to do it for the Lord. Because He has given me a lot more than I deserve, as I know that for a long period of time, I waked away from Him rather than running to Him. I know that I have come this far in life, not because of who I am, but rather because of who He is. And whatever happens in my life happens because of Him. Whether what happens is good or bad, at the end, I know I am still welcomed into the waiting arms of my Saviour.
Since, I rededicated my life to God, in my late teens, as I learned to understand the role of the Holy Spirit in my life, I began at that time, to seek to be a good steward of God's time, and have allowed Him to help me in accepting the treasures and talents He has bestowed upon me as gifts from the Loed, my job is to use them in furthuring His kingdom. The goal God has planted in my heart is to see “Humility as the divine characterister of God that should be found in my heart as I am tought and instructed by the Spirit of God. I pray that I have developed something that dose not look like self-depreciation or that I have an inferiority complex. Because I know that God wants me not to seek my own interests, but rather to seek only God`s interests in my daily life. In the end, it will be for God's favour for time and eternity. For God is my humble example, through the life of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross to save me from my sin.
Ot was "C. S. Lewis" that said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.”
In John 1:19-28, John paints a picture of humble leadership in answering a question put to him by the religious leaders In this answer he does not elevate himself. By saying, I am not the Messiah, I am not Elijah, nor am I a prophet that you are expecting. I am just “the voice of one calling in the wilderness” (v. 23), and pointing others to Jesus.
John’s is a good example of a humble leader where rather than seeking recognition, they were trying to give him, he bows to declaring that he’s only a servant and not even worthy to untie the sandals of the the massiah who is coming. (v. 27). This humble humility gives power to his testimony of Jesus coming soon. John was not seeking followers for himself, but did the job God gave him to do, in preparing the way for Christ. As I have studied the scripture over the years this example of Paul has helped me to embrace humility and not to seek recognition but rather to direct the recognition to the one who deserves that recognition, who is Jesus.
It is rare to see this kind of humility in our world today, even as hard as we may try, I always am able to find that little bit of pride in my life, if which I am not happy with, but with the help of the Holy sporot I continue to work on it. So just as Paul did, we too are called to direct peoples attention to Jesus, and a life that is pleasing to God. (vv. 21-23). Jesus is the one we should daily be longing for, in our lives.(v. 27).
I believe with the help of God, I have been able to keep a proper prespective on this aspect of humility. I have tried over the years to not take more credit than was due me. It has been a good way to staying humble as His servant in the accomplishments He has done through me over the years while being able to recognizing the omportantance of others in their assignments and in the roles they also have been given.
Humility is something God has to continue working on in me, I am known to want to do things my way, because my way is best Because I can do it the best. But God wants us to give Him the credit, for with out His breath going on and on through my body, I would not even be here.I am here, because of who God is and wno I am because of Christ. Father God, thank you, it is in your name I pray AMEN
