Live Life With Minimal Regret
Luke 12:13-21
"And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possessed.
Greed is an excessive desire to gain much material gain, or to become known in your community as well off, with social graces, wealth, power and stature. It can become a habit or a lack of control of possessing things, a focus on accumulating more than what is needed. Greed according to scripture is a sin, implying a strong moral disapproval of the behaviour.
Many of us can fall into it without realizing it. Think about it, if your getting older maybe now is the time to think about it before you get to my age. “Would you do anything differently if you have a redo of life?” Would you wish you would have had the courage to live a life that was really you?. Rather than pretending to be someone you are not?
Do you wish you hadn’t worked so hard, and took more time to be with your family training, teaching and making memories? Do you wish, you would have expressed your feelings more and never allowed so many people to run over them.
Do you wish you had stayed in touch with more of your friends from years gone by? Would you wish you had configured your life according to the will of God more so that your joy may have been fuller, because of your obedience to His will for your life.
These thoughts brings to mind what God says in the scriptures where Jesus talks in Luke 12 about a rich man who decides to build bigger barns to store his great harvest, after which he tells himself he’ll retire in style, sit back and relax, and live until he dies (vv. 18-19).
But then, God demands his life, and says to him, “You fool!” “What will become of all your stuff?” (v. 20). Basically saying, when you die, you cannot take anything with you, you will leave it behind and others will dispose of it. You will at that time have no control over what is done with your precious stuff.
I wonder, if it is possible to leave this earth behind without any regrets? I don't know that for sure, but what we do know is this. That what ever I store up[ here on this earth in material gain is a dead end, it really has no value in the life after death. True riches come by storing up treasure in heaven where moth and rust does not corrupt . (Matthew 6:20)
So in closing, if your day to leave this earth was today, Would the word, WISE or FOOLISH be attached to your name? Peter you were ...! And ask yourself why that would be the case and what can you do about it while your still alive.
Dear Heavenly Father, Help me live in such away that I will have minimal regrets, because I am sure I will have some. But I want to have as few regrets as possible. Please help me to live wisely, building a life rich in You. My desire is to hear you say, WELL DONE! Thank you, in Jesus name I pray AMEN
